The San Diego ALS Walk
I knew I wanted to participate in the ALS walk in memory/honor of my Uncle Tony, but had high aspirations of forming a team, creating a buzz, camaraderie... and raising a lot of money - you know all the bells and whistles. Something to feel like I was doing my Uncle Tony proud and being productive with the feelings and emotions I have since his untimely passing. Well. 'life happened' and we were within two weeks of the walk and frankly outside of thinking about it and all I wanted to do... I hadn't actually done a thing. *sigh * {a sigh as a mother of a toddler I often take, thinking... when will I get my act together?!}
With 10 days before the walk and still I wasn't even registered yet {even though I had every intention of walking} I saw the below picture and thought on facebook...
Will you LIVE or simply exist? I don't know what it was exactly or why it hit me so significantly but it spoke to me and I decided at that moment I was going to give it all I had to create our team, raise money for ALS and do something that would make Uncle Tony smile. So it started... within 24 hours I had a shirt company willing to give a price break to contribute to and support our philanthropic endeavors, created a logo and set up our team page on the ALS website and began networking with family, friends and friends of friends. I was able to reflect on the image from facebook and connect it to the vision of this goal and that is when I was so fondly reminded of Uncle Tony's "Live Jimmy". It brought a tearful smile to my face and that inspiration lead me to our logo...
From there it was like I was merely the liaison between the cause and our family. I am elated to announce we have surpassed our goal of $1000.00 and donations are still coming in! So a BIG warm and heart felt THANK YOU to each and every person that supported our efforts... you are founding members of our "Live Jimmy" team and I will say... this is just the beginning... this has ignited a path I plan to pursue further. I am truly in awe of what was able to divinely come together in literally 10 days! Special atta girls go out to my mom and sister for helping get this off the ground - we love you 'Nanny' and 'Annie Sue'!
Below are some of our event photos...
Notice "Live Jimmy" at the top :)
The cutest walker there...
Had to take advantage of the photo opp with the Geico Gecko
I think it was Wendy who posted that she hoped the weather was nice for our walk... the first picture below is as we were beginning the walk it was drizzling and cloudy.
As we walked the sun began to shine and the sky cleared up... it was gorgeous!
I am filled with gratitude...we walked because we could.
XO, Steph
